Choosing An Area Rug

sm-Paul-Bio Shopping for an area rug can sometimes be overwhelming. Typically designers will start with a rug, and work their way from there. From rugs you can usually set the color scheme of a room and play off of it.

If it’s contemporary you are looking for, maybe a colorful patterned rug will start you on your way. Other colors in the room can play off of the rug by taking specific colors from the rug and accessorizing with them. It is definitely easier to match paint colors and textiles to a rug as opposed to the contrary. Another way to enhance the look of the rug would be to take neutral colors that work well with the rug colors and surround it with them in order to draw attention to the rug. If your room is done, and the rug is the last thing needed to complete the look, try pulling it all together with a textured rug, maybe a classic shag. Shags now come in an array of colors and textures, and can even be custom colored.

If you are more the traditional style, you will probably not have too difficult of a time, as many of these rugs contain between 6-16 very traditional colors. Some of these colors are gold, black, brown, beige, ivory, red, burgundy, sage, olive, camel, navy, rust, rose, and copper. Hard to miss with these, as any or all of these can be found in most traditional furniture and/or accessories. Have fun and enjoy the experience.
